Yes, if desired, it is possible to book another specialist.
What should I expect at the first meeting?
The first session is usually introductory. The therapist introduces the client and explains the confidentiality policy. A connection is established between the therapist and the client – the therapist creates a safe, non-judgmental and warm environment so that the client feels comfortable. In turn, the client talks about the reasons that made them decide to start therapy. Talks about their expectations and, with the help of the therapist, formulates the goals they want to achieve through therapy.
Feel free to ask questions about the therapist’s approach, what to expect from therapy or about any issues that are unclear to you.
Building trust takes time – you can open up to a level where you feel comfortable. After the session, think about how free you felt when interacting with the therapist – a good therapeutic relationship is the key to effective therapy.
Remember that this is just the beginning. Mixed feelings of anxiety, hope, or even uncertainty are perfectly normal in the early stages.
